Formula Reviews and Drafting
It can be difficult to accurately translate an idea into wording or formulae that is suitably rigorous.
Heads of Terms: “Rent to be reviewed every five years, capped at a 4% increase per year”
Is that cap compounded and then applied after 5 years, or is the cap applied and then compounded each year? Does your drafting reflect this subtle difference?
Legal Maths will review (and draft) any formula or clause and ensure that it properly communicates your intention and is mathematically watertight.
Calculations and Calculators
Legal Maths can prepare spreadsheets that calculate and illustrate the potential outcomes of your matter. This might include revenue-based overage scenarios, inflation-linked service charge reviews, or more complex settlement arrangements.
We can also prepare schedules for use in litigation scenarios that demonstrate the interest or royalties due on distinct sums at varying rates and across asynchronous time periods.
The GOV.UK website provides a number of useful calculators, however these usually restrict users to single inputs only. Legal Maths have prepared a number of spreadsheets that allows for mass entries and more efficient calculations.
Misc and Admin
Breaking down and analysing fee earner time is a time-consuming but necessary part of billing clients.
Legal Maths can prepare spreadsheets and auto-updating tables that display the key metrics, allowing for more efficient and accurate billing processes and allowing your lawyers to spend more time on the law.
Training and Guidance
Legal Maths can prepare advice notes and offer training to members of your teams in order to support numerical literacy.
This can include general Microsoft Excel training, custom calculator guidance, notes explaining more complex statutory calculations (e.g. SDLT edge cases) and much more.
